It is our aim to help each child grow in the love and knowledge of the Good Shepherd as he or she prepares to receive these Sacraments.
First Holy Communion and Reconciliation candidates must complete two years of formal Catholic education either through RE (Catechesis) or Catholic School. Candidates typically receive the Sacraments in the Spring of 2nd grade.
Part of the preparation is for parents and children to attend a retreat in the fall of their 2nd year of preparation, as well as the First Reconciliation child retreat in the spring before their First Holy Communion Mass.
To be eligible for the Sacrament: -Must be a registered and practicing parishioner of St Mary's Taylor. -Must register for and attend faith formation classes -Must attend the retreat -Much submit a copy of the child's Baptismal Certificate.
For children older than 8 years who ARE baptized Catholics but have not yet been prepared for the Sacraments of Initiation. The process of formation for Sacraments for these children calls for two years of formal Catholic education/faith formation, followed by the reception of First Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. If you are interested in beginning classes, contact Kate Barta at [email protected] or 512-352-2133.
